PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

LONG ISLAND CHAPTER HISTORY

The predecessor to the LONG ISLAND CHAPTER OF THE APPRAISAL INSTITUTE (before the merger) was granted its original charter in 1970. This recognized the growing number of real estate appraisal professionals in the counties of Nassau and Suffolk who sought membership in a world leading organization of professional real estate appraisers. The Long Island Chapter regularly conducts educational courses which meet state licensing and membership qualification and continuing education requirements, and offers seminars on the most current topics. Monthly meetings are held September through June, which are open to anyone interested in real estate appraisal.

The Appraisal Institute has a heritage extending over 75 years, and is the recognized authority in real estate appraisal. Its predecessor organizations, the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers, and the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, were established during the Depression to help standardize the appraisal process by promoting professional education and upholding high ethical standards.

To this day, the Appraisal Institute remains faithful to the ideal of high appraisal standards set forth its predecessors. Members are encouraged to adhere to the highest standards through professional designation programs that recognize knowledge, training, and experience in residential and commercial real estate appraisal and analysis. Appraisers holding the MAI, SRPA, or SREA general membership designations and the SRA or RM residential designations have long been respected by the courts, government agencies, lenders, corporations, and others seeking professional appraisal services. Appraisal Institute members form a national network of highly experienced and qualified professionals. In addition, the Appraisal Institute has members in many countries outside the United States.
