How to Join/Request an Application
Membership in the Appraisal Institute is open to individuals with a professional interest in appraising, including those seeking to undertake a program of training and professional membership designation to prepare for or enhance a career as a real estate appraiser. The Appraisal Institute sets stringent standards for admittance to membership.
To become a designated member, an appraiser must fulfill requirements of education and experience (subject to professional review), and submit an acceptable demonstration appraisal report - all of which reflect the knowledge and judgment required of appraisers. Members of the Appraisal Institute are also encouraged to fulfill continuing education requirements.

Members receive the Appraisal Institute’s newsletters, Valuation

industry, timely updates on state and federal real estate appraisal
legislation, listings of Appraisal Institute educational offerings and a
forum for job listings and information exchanges.
As the recognized authority in real estate appraisal, the Appraisal
Institute constantly works to promote the professional nature of the
industry and is a champion in the fight for appraisal reform. Some ongoing
activities in these areas include:
- Washington, D.C. representation for legislative and regulatory affecting
the appraisal industry.
- Contact with both federal and legislators and regulators.
- National and local public relations and marketing campaigns.
Developing a network of professional contact is crucial for success in any
field of endeavor. Affiliate Members are required to join a local chapter
of the Appraisal Institute members. At the charter level, you will be able
to participate in chapter functions through:
- Attendance at chapter, regional, and national meetings.
- The right to vote on certain local chapter issues.
- The opportunity to hold certain chapter offices and to serve on certain
chapter committees.
The
costs of becoming a member of the Long Island Chapter

Most
members of the Appraisal Institute begin as associate members and pay $310 a year in dues to the national organization and local chapter dues
that vary.

After completing designation requirements, designated
residential members pay $740 a year and designated general members pay
$840 a year
plus chapter dues.

For individuals not pursuing a designation, affiliate
membership is available for $190 a year plus chapter dues.
