PRESIDENTS'S MESSAGE - 2006 Kevin W. Matheson, SRA Long Island Chapter President - Year 2006 September is here and my term is coming to an end. I would like to reflect on the past activities we, as a Chapter, have done this year. Between the dinner meetings, seminars and classes, the Long Island Chapter has offered an abundance of education to our members and non members.
The golf outing, although I myself am not a golfer, was quite a success. Not being a golfer makes one hesitate about being involved in the outing but the outing was run in such a manner that both the golfers and non golfers felt comfortable and welcome.
The mentoring program is underway. For the SRAs, the new program for the demo did not get off the ground in New York because of some issues, however I do believe it will be scheduled in the beginning of 2007.
We as a Chapter, run programs, courses and seminars that we feel will enlighten, educate and enhance the knowledge of our chapter membership. As the 2006 Chapter President, I am confident that we will continue this tradition and pledge to focus on reaching out to the community of appraisers to demonstrate why being a member of this organization is a positive benefit for them.
The educational needs keep changing for appraisers throughout the country, especially throughout New York State. USPAP Education is an ever-changing challenge for the appraisal profession. The Appraisal Institute will stay on the cusp and keep our members informed. As government amends the requirements to become a Real Estate Appraiser, the Appraisal Institute will continue to pave the way with education. For the past two years, new programs were initiated within our chapter and I am sure we as a chapter will continue with this throughout the 2007 year. We offered free seminars and very informative dinner meetings. The Long Island Chapter is very active within the appraisal community and will continue to be a leader in our industry.
Back in January I said that I am looking forward to this year as a year of growth for our chapter, not only in membership, but in knowledge as well. I believe that we can be very proud of our Chapter accomplishments this year as we have been in the past years. I would like to reiterate that if any member or associate member has an idea for the chapter, please speak up and be heard. I hope to see you at the upcoming meetings and functions.
